  2. Karl Popper was a son of the Jewish attorney Simon Siegmund Carl Popper, born in Prague, and of his wife Jenny Schiff. From the family Schiff there were coming several significant personalities of the such XIXth and XXth centuries as the conductor Bruno Walter.
In the Vienna of beginning of the 20th century that it saw to be born to Karl Raimund Popper, the situation of the Jews was complex: on the one hand they concerned to the average and high caps of the company, occupying often positions emphasized in the economy and the politics: for example, the well-off Simon Siegmund collaborated narrowly with the liberal mayor Raimund Grübl. But on the other hand the daily demonstrations of anti-Semitism were habitual.
When Karl Popper began his university studies in the decade of 1920 the political scene was dominated ephemeral by the left side: it was blooming then the so called Red Vienna. Also Popper, interested principally in the political pedagogy, was involved in this movement, joining the socialist youths. Brief it managed to form a part, even, of the communist party. Nevertheless after a violent clash between the communists and the police vienesa in that eight persons died, Popper moved away rapidly from the communism.

  3. After Karl Bühler presenting in 1928 a doctoral strongly mathematical thesis directed by the psychologist and linguist, Popper acquired in 1929 the training to give university lessons of mathematics and physics. In these years it took contact with the so called Circle of Vienna, though always there questioned some of the most significant postulates of this group of thinkers, which impeded his integration in the same one. In any case, the Circle met influenced by the based critique of Popper and of fact The logic of the scientific investigation Popper's principal contribution to the theory of the science, Viennese appeared for the first time in a series of publications of the own circle, in spite of the fact that it was containing a moderate critique to the positivism of this philosophers' community. The work was received as fruit of the discussions of the circle, which led many people to qualifying wrongly Popper as positivist. The ascent of the National Socialism in Austria led finally to the dissolution of the Circle of Vienna. In 1936 his founder Moritz Schlick was murdered by a student, which was celebrated openly by the press near to the National Socialism. In 1937, after the capture of the power by the supporters of Hitler, Popper, before the threatening political situation went into exile in New Zealand, after trying to emigrate uselessly to The United States and Great Britain. In the Canterbury College in Christchurch, Popper lived isolated and to a certain extent disconnected of a world that one was precipitating then in the whirlwind of the Second World war. In this environment Popper he wrote his opened company and his enemies (in German Die offene Gesellschaft und ihre Feinde).

  4. Also of that epoch John C dates his friendship and collaboration with the neurobiólogo. Eccles, together with which would write I and the brain in 1977.After the war, in 1946, Popper deposited as teacher of philosophy in the London School of Economics and Political Science. The sociologist and liberal economist Friedricht August von Hayek was one of Popper's principal valedores for the concession of this square. Nevertheless, the relation between both thinkers is still controversial. In spite of the fact that both were supporting methodological similar positions and of that Popper made his some fundamental concepts of Hayek's, such works as the beginning of the spontaneous order, the certain thing is that Popper was distrusting the pure mechanisms of the free market that abanderaba Hayek, preaching rather certain intervencionista that was not ending, in any case, in the control or in the state property.
In 1969 he moved back from the academic active life, going on to the category of emeritus teacher, in spite of which it continued publishing up to his death, on September 17, 1994 in East Croydon (London).
Karl Popper's philosophical achievements cost numerous recognitions him, such as he was nominated a gentleman by the queen Isabel II of the United Kingdom in 1969. It received the Companion's emblem of Honor (Companion of Honour) in 1982, the prize Lippincott of the North American Association of Political Sciences and Prize Sonning. He was a member of the Company Mont Pelerin, a community of studies founded by Hayek to promote a political liberal agenda, as well as of the Royal Society of London, with the range of member, and of the International Academy of the Science. Between others, it cultivated the friendship of the German chancellor Helmut Schmidt. Some acquaintances disciples of Popper were Hans Albert, Imre Lakatos and Paul Feyerabend, who was also one of his firmer critical.
